Christmas joy conquers fear

LACASA received more than 2,600 telephone calls for help this year and provided more than 15,000 meals to families who stayed in the crisis shelter. The agency assisted nearly 500 adult victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, and nearly 400 child victims of sexual assault and domestic violence.
Wireless Zone owner Steve Bloom and his employees adopted one of the families. He also nominated LACASA’s Child Abuse Prevention Council for a $4,000 grant from the Wireless Zone Foundation.
Bloom, a Fowlerville resident, owns two Wireless Zone shops in Howell and one in Hartland.
“It’s the right thing to do,” Bloom said. “There’s so much bad in the world that it would be nice to just be able to see some kids smile and some families.
“It’s tough. I’ve been through it,” Bloom added.
